U.S. Regulators Approve Basel II Regulatory Capital Rules (1.08.08)
After several years of deliberations and debate on how to proceed, which included delays in the implementation schedule, the U.S. federal banking regulators have approved the final rule to implement the new, risk-based regulatory capital framework from Basel II. The framework will be required for only the largest U.S. banks (core banks) — those with consolidated total assets of $250 billion or more or with consolidated total on-balance-sheet foreign exposure of $10 billion or more.
