In September 2016, the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) proposed expansive new cybersecurity regulations for banks, insurance companies, and other financial services organizations. The proposed rule, which is scheduled to go into effect in 2017, will require banks and other financial services companies licensed in New York to adhere to a broad range of new cybersecurity requirements.
